In the week leading up to the Tuscan away game in Carrara, scheduled for Saturday, October 25 at 5:15 PM at the Stadio Comunale dei Marmi, Venezia FC defender Marin Sverko takes stock of the team’s condition and comments on the draw in the match against Empoli.
Marin Sverko, Venezia FC defender
"Physically, I feel great. For the past three weeks, I’ve been participating in group training sessions, and I’m physically ready to play 90 minutes per match.
The game against Empoli was well played, except for the first 15 minutes when we started off slowly. What we might be missing is perhaps the final third play. Empoli played many long balls, which we were able to defend well. Of course, we wanted to come away with a victory, so we’ll refine the details in training.
I’ve been at Venezia for three years, I’m 27, and I know the Italian league well; I hope my experience can help the team give their best. Stroppa asks defenders to play with the ball, dominating the game from their own half, and he also requires us to defend high, man-to-man, which I like.
My goal is to take Venezia as high as possible. I’m very attached to the club and I want to do well here. I feel important to the team; I’m one of the players who’s been here the longest, and I feel like one of the leaders in the locker room. I’m always ready to help my teammates and set an example during training.
In terms of mentality, we want to win every game we play. We feel the need to take full points even away from home, and we’ll try to do that starting with the next match in Carrara. It will be a tough game; the pitch is artificial, and the environment is different from what we are used to. If we put into practice what we work on every day in training, we’ll do well."
