At the end of the match between Venezia FC and Cesena FC, on Matchday 4 of Serie BKT 25/26, which ended 1–2 in favor of the "romagnoli", Venezia FC coach Giovanni Stroppa and midfielder Gianluca Busio shared their thoughts on the game.
Giovanni Stroppa, Venezia FC head coach
“We conceded two goals that could have been avoided: on the corner kick we had the marking and we could have done more. The first goal, instead, came with our defense already set. We went behind in a tough match, against a team that waited for us and tried to counterattack. When you have the chances and the opportunity to get back into the game, you need to be sharper. In terms of attitude, there were plays that were too timid and, against compact and organized opponents, you also need a bit of individual initiative to make the difference. We knew Cesena were a high-level team, well-coached, and to face this kind of opponent you need courage and focus — things that were a bit lacking today. We need to be more aggressive, win duels, and be more pragmatic in both phases of the game.”
Gianluca Busio, Venezia FC midfielder
“Today we lacked a bit of edge in the attacking phase; we held the pitch well for 60 minutes, then at the first mistake we conceded a goal. We had a few chances to score, but we weren’t able to finish them. We need to pay more attention to every single play, and their first goal — which came from a throw-in — shows that. That’s football: both last week in Pescara and today we lacked the right mentality to face every situation with the proper focus. There are still thirty-four games to go, we know we need to improve, and we’ll work to do that.”
