On Giornata 37 of the 2022/23 Serie B season, Venezia FC overcame Perugia 3-2 with a hard-fought victory, which brought the team to seventh place and into the playoff zone, pending the last round of the championship: decisive were the goals by Pierini, Carboni and Ellertsson, who garnered the applause of the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium.
Venezia coach Paolo Vanoli and striker Nicholas Pierini commented on the outcome of the match as follows.
Paolo Vanoli:
“We had the right approach to the match, putting forward a good game for the first hour and conceding too much in the second half. We still lack this, the management of the game in the last stages of the match. In this league, the team has learned to suffer, making a fine path of growth in the key of continuity and passing the test we gave ourselves. We knew we were meeting a team facing difficulty, but one that knows how to throw its heart over the hurdle.
Winning today would have been a great opportunity, less than a week ago we were celebrating salvation, now we are in seventh place. We kicked off this dream, now we have to keep fighting for it. In Parma we will meet a strong team, it will be a very difficult match that we will have to prepare with maximum intensity.”
Nicholas Pierini:
“Today's performance was the result of intense and targeted weekly training, today's win was absolutely vital to try to reach this goal we have set for ourselves, and we have some difficult days ahead of us before Parma. I am happy to have contributed to the team at a time like this, after some challenging months for me. I have always tried to do my best when called to my task, we all work in the interest of this team. No one believed we could achieve such a result, yet here we are now: we go to Parma to maintain this position in the standings.”
