Serie B 22/23: Venezia - Modena postmatch

May 1, 2023

Venezia FC dominates on Giornata 35 of the 2022/23 Serie B championship, overcoming Modena 5-0 with thunderous support from the orange and green fans present at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium. Joel Pohjanpalo's record-breaking poker is enhanced and embellished by Zampano's goal for three points that bring the team very close to the goal of salvation.

Venezia coach Paolo Vanoli and striker Joel Pohjanpalo commented on the outcome of the match as follows.

Paolo Vanoli:

“I've said it more than once: I see these guys training every day to get out of the situation we were in, which did not always allow us to express our value quietly. The continuity found at this stage of the championship comes from sacrifice, commitment, dedication. Such a performance also makes our fans proud, who came out in force today to support us. Let's enjoy this success, with the knowledge that we need to keep our concentration high.

This victory was very important for us to take us out of a dangerous situation, but it's not all written yet. We have three games ahead of us, the next one will be against Cosenza, a team that will host us on a difficult ground and are fighting tooth and nail to avoid relegation. Whatever comes after mathematical salvation will be a dream, and I, in my life, have always dreamed: I hope these guys can dream, too.”

Joel Pohjanpalo:

“It was the perfect night for Venezia, and for that we have to thank our fans for today's record attendance, and also our guests, whose historical friendship with our Curva helped create a unique atmosphere, which all the players appreciate. I'm very proud to have scored four goals today, but I owe this mostly to my teammates, the wonderful assists they served up to me and the team movement."

As the coach has already pointed out, the main goal remains salvation, until it is truly mathematical, but now we can allow ourselves some more hope. We will meet Cosenza and Perugia away and at home, we must try to collect as many points as possible on these occasions, and at the last game we will understand what we can really aspire to.”
