Serie B 22/23: Venezia - Como postmatch

April 1, 2023

Venezia clinched a crucial victory in the salvation race on Giornata 31 of the 2022/23 Serie B season, regaining the initial disadvantage suffered against Como thanks to three goals from Antonio Candela, Tommaso Milanese and Joel Pohjanpalo in front of a packed Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo.

Venezia manager Paolo Vanoli and defender Antonio Candela spoke to the press after the match.

Paolo Vanoli:

"I saw a great Venezia today. I partly expected such a performance after two weeks of great work, but it is never easy to play with the expectations and pressure that our position in the standings entails. I'm especially pleased because I finally saw the right spirit, after ending up undeservedly on the back foot, but I still want more ruthlessness in defense and in the offensive phase, we have to handle games differently.

We are a group, we are a team, and today we showed it in front of a crowd that is carrying us and supporting us until the end. We still need to work on cunning, but as we continue on this path, the results will keep coming.”

Antonio Candela:

"We are very satisfied with this performance: we started with the knowledge that we were facing a direct confrontation, not even a draw would have pleased us. We started off on the right foot, then we were unlucky to suffer the disadvantage, but recovering from that situation was not easy and we did it. We know that other teams in our situation are having equally positive results, so this is not the time to relax.

Having reached this point, we have to give everything and we cannot make any mistakes. It was important to score at the end of the first half, not to return to the locker room in a negative position and above all to thank the fans, who were numerous today, who helped and supported us, as I hope they will continue to do.”
