After a 2-1 win over Empoli at Stadio Carlo Castellani on Saturday afternoon, delivering Venezia’s first points of the 2021/22 Serie A season, manager Paolo Zanetti and defender Mattia Caldara spoke to the media.
Zanetti:
“Getting the club’s first Serie A win after 19 years is a great satisfaction. For many of us, it was our first win. Though our start to the season was difficult, we managed the match very well and won as a team. We were able to get beyond our difficulties, and I hope this victory will give enthusiasm to my players, because we need it. In addition to the goals, we were on the doorstep on two more occasions, and if we had finished better the result could have been even more significant.”
Caldara:
“It was a demanding, intense match, but I feel great. In this period, we have worked a lot on the defensive side of the ball and on our balance and these preparations combined with a great concentration helped us to concede just a few shots on goal. We are getting to know each other; we are only at the beginning. We must continue to work hard because we know that to win we need this spirit and this unity of intent.”
