Paolo Vanoli named Venezia FC first team manager

November 7, 2022

Venezia FC are pleased to announce Paolo Vanoli as first team manager. Vanoli, 50, has signed a two-year contract through the 2023/24 season.

His staff will include Lino Filipe Neves Godinho (Assistant), Marco Zuccher (Goalkeeper Coach), and Giampiero Ascenzi (Trainer).

Born in Varese, Vanoli enjoyed a decorated playing career, earning two caps with the Italy senior national team, winning the UEFA Cup with Parma and the Coppa Italia with both Parma and Fiorentina, and making a total of 135 appearances in Serie A and 130 appearances in Serie B — including the 1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons at Venezia — plus two seasons abroad at Rangers in Scotland and Akratitos in Greece.

Vanoli’s managerial career began at Coverciano, first serving as an assistant coach for the Italy Under-16 and Under-17 national teams before becoming head coach for the Under-18 and Under-19 teams and then serving as an assistant coach for the senior team.

Moving from international football to club football, Vanoli’s next experiences would be under Antonio Conte. In 2017/18, Vanoli served as an assistant to Conte at Chelsea, helping the Blues won the FA Cup that year. Conte would later recall Vanoli onto his staff at Inter Milan, as the Nerazzuri reached the final of the UEFA Europa League in 2019/20 and won Serie A in 2020/21.

In December 2021, Vanoli became head coach of Spartak Moscow and led his team to win the 2021/22 Russian Cup. Vanoli decided to leave the club in June 2021 citing personal reasons.

Vanoli and his staff will begin preparing the team ahead of the match against Reggina at Stadio Penzo on Saturday 12 November in Giornata 13 of the 2022/23 Serie B season.

Venezia FC dismissed Ivan Javorčić as first team manager on 31 October 2022 after registering nine points with two wins, three draws, and six losses through Giornata 11. Venezia FC Primavera manager Andrea Soncin served as interim first team manger this past weekend in a loss at Como in Giornata 12.
