Palermo-Venezia: post match

March 15, 2024

At the end of Palermo-Venezia, Day 30 of the Serie BKT 2023/24 championship, which finished with the result of 0-3, Venezia coach Paolo Vanoli and Joel Pohjanpalo analyzed the match as follows.

Paolo Vanoli
"A performance of great personality, a trait that in stadiums like this is crucial. I congratulate my guys because they work so hard every day and they deserve this victory. We have played so many good games in the season, today we were perfect. We respect our opponents but we want to think about our own performance, I must say that today the team managed the moments of the match in a masterful way, maybe what we lacked in Como and Parma. We are growing and we believe in our dream. My players were very good at looking for width in the game today, it was a key aspect. I am fortunate to have four excellent strikers who sacrifice for the team and to be able to choose who to deploy from game to game.“

Joel Pohjanpalo
"Palermo is one of the opposing teams with whom I get on well, this is the fourth game in which I am going to score against them, for the first time scoring a double. Last year here in Palermo, in Mister Vanoli's second game, we had managed to get a very important victory because we were last in the standings but, a season later, things have changed because now we are fighting for promotion. The standing ovation from the audience makes me proud, everyone knew the importance of the match and receiving respect even from the opposing fans after a great performance will forever remain one of the best memories of my career. With tonight's result we put some pressure on the other competitors and at the moment we are second, we will see what happens, there are still eight games left and we want to think about playing one at a time. Joronen and I now have some very important inside-out games ahead of us with the Finnish national team, there will be a lot of pressure but hopefully we can make it to the final playoff in Helsinki to qualify for the next European Championship.“
