Venezia FC announces the acquisition of Croatian defender Marin Šverko on a permanent transfer from FC Groningen. The 25-year-old has signed personal terms with the club through the 2025/2026 season.

After coming through the ranks of Karlsruher’s youth teams, in 2017 he signed with FSV Magonza II with whom he collected 39 caps, one goal, and one assist competing in the German third division and the Regionalliga Südwest.

After some loan spells in the German championships, the young center-back was noticed by FC Groningen, who acquired him in 2021. He appeared in 28 games of Eredivisie with the Dutch club.

During the course of last year’s season, Šverko made 5 appearances with Venezia FC after joining the club on loan in January 2023.

At the international level, he has been called up to the Croatian national team youth squads. Totaling 28 caps and 1 goal from the Under-17 to the Under-21 squads.
