This morning, a delegation from Venezia FC visited the Basilica of Superga to pay tribute to the Grande Torino, in remembrance of the tragedy that occurred on May 4, 1949.
Led by Sporting Director Filippo Antonelli, Technical Area Director Christian Molinaro, Head Coach Eusebio Di Francesco, Managing Director Tancredi Vitale, and Director of Operations Andrea Rogg, the delegation from the lagoon city laid a wreath and a club scarf at the foot of the commemorative plaque.
A simple yet heartfelt gesture to solemnly remember one of the most painful and significant chapters in Italian football history, when the entire Torino team perished on their return from a friendly match in Portugal against Benfica.
A deep bond connects Venezia FC to that legendary team, which included former arancioneroverdi players Ezio Loik, Valentino Mazzola, and Aldo Ballarin. Among the victims of the tragedy was also Aldo’s brother, Dino Ballarin, who, like Aldo, was originally from Chioggia.
Just days before the 76th anniversary of the tragedy that struck the Torino club and the entire football world, Venezia FC joins in remembrance of the Grande Torino—an eternal symbol of passion, talent, and humanity.
