On Matchday 14 of the Serie B Women’s Championship, Venezia FC’s Lionesses were defeated by Res Donna Roma. At the “Raimondo Vianello” Sports Ground, Oliveira’s side put in a generous but ineffective performance, conceding one goal in each half.
The match began with Venezia in control: in the 4th minute Orlandi tried her luck from the edge of the box following a corner, but the Roman defense cleared. Venezia continued to dominate possession and came close to taking the lead in the 15th minute with Willis, again from a corner, while shortly after Cortesi attempted a long-range shot, forcing a fine save from Merolla. In the 17th minute, a shot from outside the box by Pezzotti narrowly missed the target — the first real chance for the hosts. Res Donna Roma took the lead in the 19th minute thanks to an unfortunate own goal by Fernandez, who deflected a cross past Beka. Venezia did not lose focus and kept building play, coming close to equalizing in the 44th minute when Duarte headed just over the bar from a wide free kick taken by Cortesi.
The second half once again saw Venezia pushing forward: less than a minute in, Willis struck first time from the edge of the area, earning a corner after a deflection. In the 63rd minute, Res doubled their lead through Ferraresi, who headed home from a corner kick. In the closing stages, Venezia pushed hard to get back into the match: Mounecif volleyed from the edge of the box without success, Ballo narrowly missed with a powerful long-range effort, and in the 90th minute Furlanis tested the goalkeeper with a shot at the near post. After four minutes of added time, Cipolloni’s final whistle brought the match to an end. Venezia’s next fixture is scheduled for Sunday, February 1, at home against Freedom.
