PRIMAVERA 22/23: VENEZIA 2-3 MONZA

November 5, 2022

After going unbeaten through the first seven rounds of the 2022/23 Primavera 2 season, the Venezia FC Primavera suffered their first loss of the campaign on Saturday as visitors Monza struck in the 95th minute to capture at 2-3 win at Centro Sportivo Taliercio.

In a match that was physical and tense battle from the start, Venezia took the lead in the 23rd minute when Iceland youth international Kristófer Jónsson scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season on a feed from his compatriot Hilmir Mikaelsson.

But just seven minutes later Monza would equalize from the penalty spot after Gabriel Sandberg handled the ball from a scrum in the box, and the two sides would remain even at 1-1 going into half-time.

In the second half, the visitors would convert yet another penalty to go in front, this time from a Noah Baudoin hand in the box in the 60th minute.

Venezia poured forward in search of an equalizer, and were finally rewarded in the 94th minute when Baudoin finished off a cross from Melvyn Rémy.

With just a minute of added time remaining, the Lagunari pushed for a winner and nearly got it. But Monza ‘keeper Andrea Mazza not only denied Amin Boudri’s header, he had the presence of mind to launch a counterattack, which culminated in a goal from Tommaso Simone Marras in the 95th minute to take all three points.

Next up, Venezia will take on league leaders Parma in Giornata 9 of the 2022/23 Primavera 2 season.
